Keystone ExamsMay 13 – 24, 2013 Between May 13 and 24, 2013, ACT Academy will administer the Keystone exams to our 9th through 11th grade students. The Keystone Exams are end-of-course assessments designed to measure proficiency in various subjects. During the 2012-2013 school year, the following Keystone Exams will be available: Algebra I, Literature and Biology. In future years, pending funding, additional Keystone Exams will be administered. The Keystone Exams are one component of Pennsylvania’s proposed system of high school graduation requirements. Keystone Exams will help ACT Academy guide students toward meeting PA state standards. Parents and guardians may review the Keystone Exams if they believe they may be in conflict with their religious beliefs by making arrangements with the ACT Academy Principal. Confidentiality agreements must be signed, and no copies of the Keystone Exams or notes about exam questions will be permitted to leave the school. If, after reviewing the Keystone Exams, parents or guardians do not want their child to participate in one or all of the exams due to a conflict with their religious beliefs, they may write to the ACT Academy CEO prior to the beginning of the exam(s) to request to excuse their child from the exam(s). Retreat/SummitMay 20, 2013 ACT Academy will conduct our first Social Justice/Social Change Spring Summit at Eastern University on Monday May 20, 2013. We plan for all ACT Students to attend this summit which is an essential part of the Social Change course. Unlike the Fall Retreat, we will not be staying overnight at Eastern; rather, all required activities will be completed in one day. In the morning, students will collaborate with other members of their Social Change cohort to put the finishing touches on the plan to implement the Social Change project on which they have been working for the entire school year. After lunch, students will be treated to a tour of the Eastern University Campus. After the tour, the Social Change groups will present their plans to all attendees. The day will culminated with an awards ceremony along with remarks from Foundations, Inc. CEO, Rhonda Lauer.
